FMLC Launches FMLC Live

On 20th December, FMLC launched its FMLC Live campaign.

FMLC Live is a series of free events designed to give further and higher education learners hands on experience, to develop key skills in sound, lighting and video, whilst also offering an opportunity for the public to enjoy free musical performances from very talented musicians.

Our first LIVE event welcomed Missy and the Moochers and “Mr Philbur” (Phil Taylor Fleming). Missy and the Moochers put on a fabulous show. The swing, jazz, and soul group were a pleasure to hear.

Hosting the band didn’t come without it’s challenges, as they incorporate wind instruments and keys into their standard band setup. Our further education sound engineer trainee, Kane reacted fantastically to the challenge, incorporating what he had learned in college, to put into practice at a live event, the sound equipment was completely new to him, and he really did a fantastic job.

and the additional responsibility of wind instruments (saxophone) and keyboard to add to a standard band mix was a new challenge for our further education sound engineer trainee. Kane had never used the sound equipment presented, and did a fantastic job.

“Mr Philbur” (Phil Taylor Fleming) also performed a mixture of his originals and Christmas-themed covers for the audience, and gave a breakdown on how he writes his own music.

Keep an eye out on our social media platforms for interviews with Phil and with Kane, which gives a deeper insight into sound engineering, the challenges you face as a musician and also how the charity aims to help overcome these.
